BLOAT in Our Beloved Danes  (originally posted by Animal House)

We are all aware of Bloat if we own great danes... but not everyone knows how to help minimize the risk of Bloat in our canine friends.

Bloat is believed to be caused by a combination of eat lots, drink lots, and play all at once.

~Try to make sure your dog does not eat too fast. Making sure your dog does not over eat (as far as amount of food goes) will reduce the risk of painful tummy aches and help lower the risk of Bloat.

~Limit the water intake an hour before or after food.

~Limit excessive play to and hour before and two hours after eating. Your dog should be well relaxed before and after eating to be allowed to easily digest their food without having to focus energy on activity!

These are not sure fire ways to prevent Bloat, but it's a start. If we can all try to follow these simple steps, we may prevent the loss of a loved one or even a painful and expensive surgery!
