I have puppy pads laying around and she will go everywere but the pads. I dont know what else to try anyone have any ideas? 2: I live in AR and i am haveing a hard time someone that trains GreatDanes. We found a class at the colleage, but when i told them i had a Dane they kinda acted like they had never delt with the breed and i just dont want anyone training her. Re:My 8 Week Old Great Dane puppy

Hi, LillyDanesmama.

Lilly is pretty young to understand yet, but she's holding it until she gets back inside, because that's where she had been doing her business before.  I'm figuring she was either in a kennel and was pottying on the floor there, or the people had the litter inside and that's where she was going.  If that's the case she's going to hold it as long as she can  in order to get back inside to go where she thinks she is supposed to go.  This is going to take some patience on your part, but it can be accomplished.  First of all, are you crate training?  Everytime a puppy comes out of the crate, we immediately go outside (no exceptions!) and I wait for them to potty and then praise:  Good girl!  And I also tell them what I want.  If they pee and haven't pooped yet, I tell my guys, go BIG potty. (I praise them any time they potty outside....I still do...even with the old ones, even it it's just a quick "good girl".   It may take a lot of times, especially at that age, but I stay out with them to be sure we are accomplishing what we need to, and I won't let them come back in until they do big potty.  They may even get a little frantic, trying to come back in, but I'll patiently walk back in the yard and I keep saying "lets go big potty".  When she finally breaks down because she can't hold it any more and poops where I want, then I'd praise her profusely.  Good girl go big potty!  Pats and hugs.....I'd make a big deal when she does what you are asking.  And I wouldn't go back inside until it was accomplished.  It may seem like it takes forever the first few times, but it'll get easier and easier.  Then go back inside and play in the house if you'd like.

8 weeks is awfully young.  And 6 weeks is awfully young to take a puppy away from their Mom and siblings.  They learn a lot from interaction with Mom and brothers and sisters.

I also would not leave pads or papers down on the floor.  I know that when they eat, it's not long (maybe 10-20 minutes) before they start looking to potty.  I would be very diligent about watching for signs of them "looking" and immediately rush to the door, and I tell them "let's go outside".  Persistence is the key.  Don't make it easy for her to potty inside, or it'll take a lot longer to get her trained.
